Justice Nakintu chairs Mediation M&E engagement at Masaka High Court

The Masaka Senior Resident Judge, Hon. Lady Justice Victoria Nakintu chaired a Mediation stakeholders monitoring and evaluation engagement at Masaka High Court.
The participants in the engagement included Judicial Officers under Masaka High Court Circuit, court accredited mediators as well as local council leaders who work as mediators in greater Masaka area.
The purpose of the engagement was to assess the performance, challenges and share good practices on mediation.
Hon. Lady Justice Nakintu encouraged Judicial Officers to utilize Mediation as a way of promoting reconciliation in dispute resolution.
She thanked the Chief Justice for the initiative of re-engineering Mediation by recalling retired Judicial Officers to deploy them to different courts to handle Mediation. She shared an experience where she concluded a case which had spent in court for over 33years in court in two days through Mediation.
Hon. Justice Lawrence Tweyanze, the Resident Judge Masaka noted the need to popularize the initiative and also the need for mindset change.
He also gave an experience where a case was concluded in a few hours after spending seven years in court.
The Registrar Mediation, HW Erias Kisawuzi, thanked the Judges for implementing Mediation in their courts. He promised to organize training sessions for participants as one of the ways of building capacity for implementers.
The meeting was organized by the Mediation Registry and was moderated by HW Brenda Nakayi.
